About this programme

The BSc (Hons) Cyber Security (Top-Up) programme is designed to develop highly skilled cybersecurity professionals with the ability to analyse, manage, and respond to modern cyber threats. The programme focuses on developing technical expertise, critical thinking, and professional skills required to secure today’s digital environments. Students will explore key areas including Digital Forensics, Risk and Cyber Security Management, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Advanced Networks, and Project and Professionalism. Through these modules, learners develop an understanding of cybercrime investigation, security risk assessment, threat analysis, network defence strategies, and cybersecurity governance. The programme enables students to understand how organisations identify vulnerabilities, protect critical information systems, and respond effectively to cybersecurity incidents. Students will also develop professional project management, communication, and research skills required to work effectively in cybersecurity teams. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications, this programme prepares graduates to address real-world cybersecurity challenges and contribute effectively to protecting organisations from cyber threats.

What you will learn

1. Apply Digital Forensics Techniques Students will develop knowledge of digital investigation methods used to identify, collect, preserve, and analyse digital evidence. They will understand forensic procedures used in cybercrime investigations and incident analysis. 2. Manage Cyber Security Risks and Governance Students will understand cybersecurity risk management principles, security frameworks, compliance requirements, and governance practices used to protect organisational information assets. 3. Analyse Cyber Threats and Intelligence Students will learn how to identify, evaluate, and respond to cyber threats using threat intelligence techniques. They will understand attacker behaviours, threat landscapes, and methods used to improve organisational security. 4. Implement Advanced Network Security Solutions Students will develop advanced knowledge of network architectures, communication protocols, and security mechanisms required to design and protect modern network environments. 5. Develop Cybersecurity Projects Professionally Students will gain project management, teamwork, communication, and professional skills required to plan and deliver cybersecurity solutions in industry environments. 6. Evaluate Security Challenges and Emerging Technologies Students will critically evaluate current cybersecurity issues, emerging threats, and modern security technologies to recommend effective protection strategies. 7. Apply Research and Analytical Skills Students will develop the ability to investigate cybersecurity problems, analyse information, and present evidence-based solutions through academic and professional research.

Entry Requirements • The Qualifi Education Level 5 Diploma in Computing with Cyber Security • Pearson BTEC HND in Computing (Network Engineering) • Pearson BTEC HND in Computing (Cyber Security) • ATHE Level 4 and 5 Diploma in Computing + 3 EC Council units • OTHM – Level 4 and 5 Diploma in Information Technology + 3 EC Council units • SQA- Advanced Diploma in Computing: Networking • SQA – Higher National Diploma Cyber Security • Qualifi Level 4 and Level 5 Diplomas in Cyber Security • Any similar qualification approved by the University
